Siempre me ha fascinado cómo la ciencia ficción nos «leyó el futuro». Si creciste viendo Star Trek en los 80 o 90, estarás de acuerdo conmigo: lo que veíamos ahí parecía magia, pero hoy lo tenemos en el bolsillo. iPads, celulares, comandos de voz, hologramas… ¡Todo está aquí!
Pero hay algo que se me quedó grabado de un episodio y que hoy, con el boom de la Inteligencia Artificial, me da vueltas en la cabeza.
Recuerdo una escena donde, en plena aproximación a una batalla, la nave se queda sin energía. De repente: PUM. Se apagaron las pantallas táctiles, la computadora no respondía, no había cálculos automáticos… nada. Los controles manuales eran lo único que quedaba.
Hoy veo a mucha gente pensando que ya no hace falta estudiar, que la universidad quedó atrás o que solo basta con ser «usuarios» de la IA para que ella nos resuelva la vida.
Mi opinión es esta:
- La IA es increíble, sí. Nos hace volar.
- Pero, ¿qué pasa si un día «la energía se va»?
- Si no tienes la base, si no pasaste por el proceso de aprender el «porqué» de las cosas, te quedas sin herramientas para reaccionar.
Hoy en día, más que nunca, debemos seguir estudiando. No para memorizar como robots (para eso ya está la IA), sino para tener el criterio de saber si lo que la IA nos entrega está bien o está mal. El futuro no es de los que solo saben usar la IA, sino de los que saben qué hacer cuando la tecnología no tiene todas las respuestas.
No nos volvamos simples pasajeros. Sigamos siendo los capitanes que saben calcular la ruta incluso cuando los sensores fallan.

🚀 From Star Trek to Reality: Are We Forgetting How to Pilot Our Own Ships?
It has always fascinated me how science fiction «read our future.» If you grew up watching Star Trek in the 80s or 90s, you’ll agree with me: what we saw there seemed like magic, but today we have it in our pockets. iPads, cell phones, voice commands, holograms… It’s all here!
But there’s one scene from an episode that stuck with me, and today, with the boom of Artificial Intelligence, it keeps coming back to mind.
I remember a moment where, right before an approaching battle, the ship lost power. Suddenly: POOF. The touchscreens went dark, the computer stopped responding, no automatic calculations… nothing. Manual controls were the only thing left.
Today, I see many people thinking that there’s no need to study anymore, that university is obsolete, or that it’s enough to just be «users» of AI for it to solve all our problems.
My take on this is:
- AI is incredible, yes. It makes us soar.
- But, what happens if one day «the power goes out»?
- If you don’t have the foundation, if you haven’t gone through the process of learning the «why» behind things, you’ll be left without the tools to react.
Today, more than ever, we must continue learning. Not to memorize like robots (AI does that for us), but to have the judgment to know whether what AI gives us is right or wrong. The future doesn’t belong to those who only know how to use AI, but to those who know what to do when technology doesn’t have all the answers.
Let’s not become mere passengers. Let’s remain the captains who know how to plot the course even when the sensors fail.
